Overall, I have really enjoyed this pregnancy so far. It was getting pregnant that was the issue, but now that we’re there, pregnancy has been great!
The first trimester was pretty easy for me. I experienced very little nausea, very few food aversions, and felt great apart from the overwhelming exhaustion that plagued me during those first several weeks.
Now, several weeks into the second trimester of my first pregnancy, I still lack energy, but do not feel absolutely exhausted the way I did throughout the first trimester. Other than that lack of energy, some weird emotional episodes, and a few minor aches and pains, I’m feeling very well, and am trying my hardest to embrace every moment of pregnancy.
That being said, there is a small handful of items that have made it much easier for me to embrace each moment! And here they are:
Boppy body pillow: This was a major splurge, and something I never would have gotten for myself. Andrew found it for me and insisted that we get it. I am so glad he did! Although it does take up a lot of space, it helps me stay so much more comfortable at night, and it encourages me to sleep on my side, which is something I’ve really struggled with. I started using this a few weeks ago when my tummy started really popping, and although I love it, I think I’ve found something that I like even better! When I was at my parents’ house over the weekend I used one of my mom’s thick, firm memory pillows. I slept with it in between my legs and it was AWESOME!!! It’s not as bulky as the body pillow, so it’s easy to toss aside if I find that I get tired of it in the middle of the night. So my current strategy: body pillow on the couch; Mom’s memory foam pillow in bed.
Heat pack: My mom and I made our own using a tutorial similar to this one. For me, it serves two purposes. Not only does it help with little aches and pains that seem to come and go so often these days, but it also helps keep me warm since I am
Leggings: Of all of these must-haves, a good pair of leggings is my #1!!! I bought a pair similar to these, and they have been life savers. At the very least, they have saved me lots of energy and grief when I’m getting ready each morning. I have literally worn them nearly every day. They are just so comfortable and versatile. I’m looking forward to warm spring and summer weather, when I can simply throw on a dress, but until then, leggings have been a great outfit solution.
One or two good maternity tanks: I bought a purple one and a black one. I wear the black one A LOT, and am so glad I bought it! They are plenty long, so they make wearing non-maternity tops easy to wear, even if the tops are a bit short.
Jergens Original Scent Lotion: The skin on my tummy has been incredibly itchy during the second trimester, so I’ve been faithfully applying lotion for the past several weeks. You may have your own brand or scent that you prefer, but I’m a long-time lover of Jergens original scent!
Magnesium: Constipation has not been an issue for me at all during the second trimester, even though I’ve struggled with it in the past. I credit it nearly 100% to the magnesium supplements I take each day. So if leggings are my #1 “must have,” then magnesium is my #2!
I feel so thankful each day that we’ve made it this far, and I am beyond excited to meet our Bonnie girl.
If there are certain things that helped make your second trimester more enjoyable and/or comfortable, I’d love to hear what they were!!!
