This week did NOT pass quickly, which makes me worried that every week from here until the week Bonnie is born is going to pass more and more slowly. If that happens, I do not know if I’ll be able to take it!
This week was a big week for Andrew, as he had several midterms, and still has several more spread out over the next week as well. His grades are hanging in there this quarter, but he seems to be struggling a little with staying focused. He has not said why exactly, but I’m wondering if his mind is just a bit distracted by the thought of Bonnie’s impending birth, and how much our lives are going to change soon. If I were a student, that would certainly be enough to distract me.
As for me, some nesting instincts finally kicked in this week, and I was able to be more productive around the house than normal. I went through a nesting phase many weeks ago, and then it disappeared. I’d been wondering when it would make an appearance again, and I’m glad it finally has! I need some extra energy and motivation in order to be productive at all. Although I did get a lot done (nesting-wise,) I noticed that my pace has slowed down quite a bit. I have to take more breaks than usual, and certain things, like mopping, really hurt my back after a while.
Another new thing this week has been how hungry I’ve been! I have heard other women at this stage of pregnancy say they feel like they can only eat small amounts at a time, because there isn’t room in their stomachs. I, however, have been a bottomless pit. Under normal circumstances, I hardly think twice about eating when I feel hungry, but now I’m beginning to wonder if I need to be a bit more careful!
How far along? 34 WEEKS!!! This is a big milestone because babies born at 34 weeks usually fair pretty well. Aside from a slightly longer hospital stay, they do not usually experience any long-term health issues associated with premature birth. So 34 weeks is a big deal for any mom worried about preterm labor.
Total weight gain? 16 pounds. I can tell she is growing because every now and then I will feel her moving high in my stomach and low, around my pelvis, at the same time! She’s getting big!
Maternity clothes? Yes, but also some non-maternity summer dresses… now that the weather is finally nice and warm!
Stretch marks? Nothing new, and nothing on my stomach.
Sleep: The insomnia returned with a vengeance this week, and I am still waking up at least 5 times during the night to go to the bathroom, and often more. Fortunately, most days of the week I am able to get in at least a 20 minute power nap. Those naps have been lifesavers this week!
Best moment this week: Packing Bonnie’s hospital bag. I know it’s a little early, but I just could not help myself. I’m getting so excited to meet her.
Miss anything? My hair. I got it cut last week, and the lady did a fantastic job… one of the best hair cuts I’ve ever gotten! But since it had been over a year and a half since I’d had a trim, she had to take about four inches off the bottom. It feels so short now! I’m still adjusting.
Movement: Yes, especially in the couple days following my chiropractic adjustment on Wednesday. She moves enough that I am not worried about her, but I actually wish she moved more. I love feeling her!
Food cravings: Sweets (mostly chocolate.) And sub sandwiches. Any type of sandwich actually. I am still loving ice, and drinking water like crazy.
Anything making you feel queasy or sick: Nothing specific, but there have been a couple times this week when I’ve felt sick or queasy for no reason… at least not one reason that I can pinpoint.
Labor signs: Nope. I am having what I think are Braxton Hicks, and I have them daily.
Symptoms: More tired than usual, and hungrier than usual! I’ve also had some low back pain this week. And crazy insomnia.
Belly button in or out? In, but getting flatter all the time.
Wedding ring on or off? Off.
moody most of the time: I’ve been pretty moody and emotional this week. I’m wondering if it’s more directly related to pregnancy or lack of sleep!
Looking forward to: My dad and sister visiting soon! Also looking forward to my 34 week appointment tomorrow.
What’s Going on with Baby:
- She weighs about as much as a cantaloupe (probably over 5 pounds), and could be as tall as 20 inches!
- Her tiny fingernails have probably reached the edge of her fingertips… she’s getting ready for her first nail trim!
- She is still working on plumping up a little, and her lungs are still developing as well.
- She is practicing her breathing and sucking!
