I met with Bonnie’s future chiropractor yesterday. I liked him so much! It’s funny because during the drive there I thought to myself, “This office is way too far away. There is no way I’m driving out here every time Bonnie and I need to be checked or adjusted.” But then I met the doctor, and my mind suddenly changed. He spent a lot of time with me, was attentive to my questions, and really helped put my mind at ease.
He uses the activator method for all of his adjustments. Activator is one of Andrew’s favorite methods, so he is thrilled that Bonnie will be seeing this particular chiropractor. Hopefully she will have her spine checked within her first week or so of life. Since
the birth process can be stressful and cause subluxations in babies, it is important that newborns see a chiropractor as soon as possible after
Subluxations that go unattended in newborns can cause serious and immediate problems, but more often than not, subluxations that are not addressed will contribute to long-term issues such as headaches, vision or hearing problems, and a number of problems concerning immune function.
There is even evidence that chiropractic care can help a colicky baby!
The nervous system is the controller of our body, so when its communication channels are fuzzy, our bodies are no longer functioning to the best of their God-given abilities. For babies, ineffective communication (due to subluxations) can play out as colic or irritability, the inability to suckle and breastfeed, or poor sleep.
Some Things to Consider when Selecting a Chiropractor for your Newborn:
- Find a chiropractor who is experienced in working with newborns and infants, and preferable trained and certified through the ICPA.
- Ask the chiropractor to explain demonstrate the method and pressures he will be applying to your baby. You should find that the pressure is so gentle it would likely not even waken a sleeping baby.
- Look for a chiropractor who moves slowly and gently when examining your baby, and who deals lovingly with your baby.
- Choose a chiropractor who makes you feel comfortable, and whom you feel you can trust.

While we are waiting for Bonnie to be born, I will be getting checked and adjusted regularly, as I have been for the past 2 years; however, instead of seeing my regular chiropractor I will begin seeing Bonnie’s chiropractor!
After giving me an exam, he also suggested that I begin lifting weights. We are talking 2-3 lb. hand weights here… nothing major. So I also started that yesterday!
