Y’all. This was the best Christmas ever. Such a perfect way to end what has been such a whirlwind of a year. Both girls were very sick during the two weeks leading up to Christmas. While it broke my heart to see them not feeling well, it forced us to slow down and to soak up the last few weeks of the year, and to savor the Christmas season.
There were so many times when Andrew and I were going through fertility treatments that I would daydream about what Christmas would be like with little ones. And even though this was Bonnie’s third Christmas, at two and a half years old, this is the first year she’s been able to grasp bits and pieces of what Christmas is about. She understood this year that Christmas is Jesus’ birthday. She talked a lot about Santa and his reindeer. She was over the moon opening her presents. And we had one of the best days ever. Two of the best days ever actually, since we went to my parents’ on Monday and celebrated there.
When I was a little girl I remember thinking there was nothing better than being a kid on Christmas. But I was wrong. Having kids on Christmas is So. Much. Better.
2016 held a lot of changes, and a lot of surprises. Most of the changes were good. Some weren’t so great, but God came through and showed us His saving grace time and time again. I am ending the year with a full, grateful heart. I am so excited for the new year and what is to come in 2017.
