Audrey will be two weeks old tomorrow! The transition from one toddler to one toddler + one baby has been… interesting??? I truly don’t know what I would have done without the help of family throughout the first week of Audrey’s life. Bonnie needed a little extra TLC that I couldn’t really give, but my parents stepped in and gave her some extra-special attention that I think has helped make the transition a bit easier on her.
Audrey only likes to sleep on her belly, so the trusty Moms on Call swaddle method that worked so well with Bonnie has not worked well with Audrey. After the first few nights I finally gave in, gave up the swaddle, and began letting Audrey sleep on her belly. I know it’s technically wrong, but she was so uncomfortable on her back. And she’s still sleeping in her Moses basket beside my bed, so I’m able to keep a close eye on her throughout the night.
She has some kind of eye infection in her left eye (conjunctivitis, I think?) Right now I’m treating it with drops of breast milk and black tea, but if it hasn’t cleared up significantly by the time the weekend is over I will take her to the doctor for it.
She is nursing really well, and only dropped one ounce below her birth weight. She is a much slower nurser than Bonnie was, so I have to be careful not to rush her. Just like with Bonnie, I have A LOT of milk, and a really fast flow, so it’s taking us a little time to hit our stride, but she is definitely being well-fed!
Her little toothpick legs…
The next one makes me laugh because she looks so grumpy…
The reason there is a stick of deodorant in Audrey’s bassinet is because Bonnie brought it to her, insisting that she needed lotion.
And finally, it is hard to beat those newborn snuggles.
Meanwhile, in Bonnie’s world…
I have felt so proud of Bonnie these past two weeks. Even though she’s had a few uncharacteristic meltdowns, she has so much better overall than I thought she would.
