I tried to sit to down and type my story, but I kept coming back to this letter I wrote to my daughter. This is a letter my husband and I wrote to our daughter about the long road it took to become a family. All of the struggle and heartache that came with infertility – every negative pregnancy test, every injection, and every tear shed and prayer said, led us to her. She just turned one a couple of weeks ago, and every day I look at her and think how incredibly lucky I am that she fought and chose me to be her momma.
Just How Special You Truly Are: A note from Mom & Dad:
We prayed for you for 3 years. We first tried to get pregnant on our own for a year without any luck. We later learned that your mom had something called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, which made it difficult to get pregnant.
We decided to see a doctor to get some help. We did 7 rounds of Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), but again without any success. We then went to see a different fertility specialist who recommended we do IVF, In-Vitro Fertilization.
After a long process of getting your mom’s body ready, we went to the fertility clinic to have eggs retrieved from your mom’s ovaries. Much to our disappointment, the doctor was only able to retrieve 3 eggs. After the eggs were fertilized, we waited to see how many would mature into embryos, and only 2 did. Your mom’s body was having a hard time with all of the medication, so the doctor suggested we freeze the 2 embryos while she recovered.
During this time your mom also saw an acupuncturist to help get her body ready to carry a baby. When we went to the fertility clinic for the embryo transfer, we learned that only one embryo had made it through the thawing process. That meant we had only ONE opportunity to get pregnant. We prayed for the embryo to be strong and fight. Luckily, it did…
And our sweet little one, that strong little fighter was YOU!
You were the one that fought to survive, despite all the odds. You were the one that fought to be born, despite a complicated and dangerous birth. We’re telling you all this because we want you to always know that you were longed for, prayed for, fought for, and you were the one who was meant to be in this world. We want you to know and always remember just how SPECIAL you truly are!
