But I will keep hope alive, and my praise to you will grow exponentially. I will bear witness to your merciful acts; throughout the day I will speak of all the ways you deliver, although I admit I do not know the entirety of either…
Without going into details, we had a pretty rough weekend at our house. By the time I crawled into bed on Sunday night I felt emotionally drained and physically exhausted. But then I pulled out my devotion book and read these words:
Hope is a golden cord connecting you to heaven. This cord helps you hold your head up high, even when multiple trials are buffeting you. I never leave your side, and I never let go of your hand. But without the cord of hope, your head may slump and your feet may shuffle as you journey uphill with Me. Hope lifts your perspective from your weary feet to the glorious view you can see from the high road. You are reminded that the road we’re traveling together is ultimately the highway to heaven. When you consider this radiant destination, the roughness or smoothness of the road ahead becomes much less significant. I am training you to hold in your heart a dual focus: My continual Presence and the hope of heaven.
– Sarah Young, Jesus Calling
This was such a timely reminder that, in the face of eternity, our trials here on this earth are so small. At the end of the day, we have the promise of heaven. And all of our difficulties on this earth pale in comparison to the greatness of our Creator and Savior. Even in the midst of trials, I have so, so much to be thankful for. God has given me gifts that I never could have earned, and that I never can repay. I will never stop praising Him, and even through difficult weekends, my praise to Him will grow exponentially!
So God has given us two unchanging things: His promise and His oath. These prove that it is impossible for God to lie. As a result, we who come to God for refuge might be encouraged to seize that hope that is set before us. That hope is real and true, an anchor to steady our restless souls, a hope that leads us back behind the curtain to where God is.
