Something that Andrew and I are lacking during this time of transition in our lives, and something that is so important, is being surrounded by a body of believers; people who are like-minded, people to encourage us in our faith.
There have been other seasons of our lives when we have had wonderful friends, and a wonderful church family. During college, Andrew and I were surrounded by friends constantly, many of whom were strong in their faith, and able to pray for and encourage us. After college, we were able to find a church where we connected with many young families our age. But after some time at that church, we felt God’s hand leading us away… so away we went. And since then, we have been lonely, and we have noticed the difference having a church home, and a church family makes.
Christianity is about relationships…. With Christ, with other believers, and with the world. We were not created to live our faith out alone.
That being said, although being an active participant in a church body, and having friends who share our faith is incredibly important, it is also important that friends and activities NOT take place of our love for our spouse and our relationship with them. Furthermore, it is important not to let church relationships or activities interfere with the One we are at church to celebrate and love on together.
I know that God is leading Andrew and me to a body of believers that we can connect with, serve Christ with, and receive and give prayer, encouragement, and support.
